CONSCIOUS TOOLS:

MIRROR WORK.

Mirror work is a powerful and effective practice that can have significant effects on how you see yourself, and how you feel about yourself and life.  The power lies in connecting with our essence (soul) through eye contact in the mirror.  The  saying ‘The eyes are the window to the soul’ rings true and this practice reinforces it.  If you pay attention when looking someone in the eye you can see who they are and how they feel.  Our eyes are our truth teller and why we want others to look at us when having a serious conversation, we want that connection and we want their truth.  I believe making eye contact is a higher ordered communication and tool for connecting with one another, or with our self, for it facilitates soul connection. A true connection.

This is why mirror work is so powerful and usually awkward, uncomfortable and/or emotional at first.  When you practice mirror work you are baring into your soul and confronting your truth.  And when we are not healed our truth is an absence of Love. Therefore, when you start to repeat the words / phrases you are working on it becomes a struggle, because you can feel the truth or lie in what is being said, and you are forced to meet your truth.  Mirror work is here to help you come face to face with yourself and how you really feel about yourself.  Our truth will set us free for our truth is the bringer of love, it makes us confront that which isn't serving us (negative thoughts, maladaptive behaviours, insecurities, fears) and guides us back to love.  As all these things are an absence of love, and for us to come back to love we must first admit our truth: That we have been living without self-love.  That we have become absent from unconditional Love.

...and this in itself is confronting, challenging and raw truth.

MIRROR WORK PR▽CTICE:

Start by looking yourself in the eye in the mirror.  Connect with your own eye contact  This is a lot harder to do than it sounds.  You may want to laugh, you may tell yourself this is stupid, this won't work, and question what you are doing, you may feel incredibly uncomfortable and awkward.  All these responses are normal and an indicator that you need this practice. If you have been thinking / speaking unkindly about yourself, this may be an emotionally challenging practice. I will be honest,  when I first started this practice I would cry, because in that moment I realised that I was truly not loving myself.

  • Standing in front of the mirror start by looking yourself in the eye, when you feel you are making a connection with yourself and not just blankly staring, start to tell yourself...

'I love you'

You can express it as ‘I love you’, ‘[name] I love you’, or ‘I love you [name], or use every version.

You want to continue with this practice regularly until you master it.

How you know you have mastered 'I love you’ :

  • You maintain eye contact throughout the practice while saying it.

  • You mean it, you feel it, you believe it, and you are happy saying it.

  • If there are tears, discomfort, awkwardness or breaking eye contact, it is not mastered.

Once saying ‘I love you’ is mastered and if you want to continue with this practice to counter maladaptive thought patterns that are self condemning, start stating other self-affirmations.

Other Self-Affirmations:

  • These can be compliments from ‘You are smart’, ‘You are beautiful’, ‘You are strong, confident, kind…’ etc. \

  • Whatever it is that pops into your mind or heart, you will know intuitively what you need to hear, these can be things that you want to believe, have never heard before, or what feel you need to evolve into.
